Description

1935 "G Date" Mauser produced Luger. These were the very first Lugers produced for the rearming German military and show the early "Weimar-style" proof marks. All serial numbers match on the pistol. Condition is overall very good, with a some pitting on the right side of he receiver. Includes two magazines, they are not numbered to the pistol but are the correct style for this period of Luger. Holster is an original 1936 Vogels with military acceptance stamps.

The Mauser G Date, Early Acceptance Mark Luger was explicitly manufactured for secret German military consumption in 1935. During this time, the funny-mustached leader of Germany from the 1930's until his untimely and cowardly death in 1945, was secretly rearming Germany in violation of the Versailles Treaty, and the date of manufacture was coded to keep this information hidden. A large capital G inscription above the chamber and I Beam-type acceptance stamps can identify this particular Luger. An estimated 34,000 units were made, including approximately 700 Kriegsmarine accepted and marked P.08s, making this model relatively scarce.

Manufactured by Mauser Werke, Oberndorf, this Luger model features the new type toggle with flat, checkered toggle knobs and a toggle mark of S/42. The barrel measures 4 inches (100mm) and is chambered for 9mm Parabellum. The frame is the late, short type with a stock lug, wide trigger, and narrow trigger guard. The receiver is also the late, short type, and the chamber is marked with the capital letter "G."

This Luger model has a serrated thumb safety lever with the upper position marked "GESICHERT" (safe in the lower position), a dorsal fin-shaped blade front sight dovetailed on the barrel, and a fixed V-notch rear sight in the rear toggle link. The extractor is of the late type, marked "GELADEN" on the left side. The grips are checkered walnut, and the magazines feature a tin-plated wrap-around body with an aluminum base.

The main finish on this model is salt blue, with the ejector, magazine catch/release, takedown lever, thumb safety lever, and trigger all straw-colored. The serial number range for this Luger is 930a to 5000d with I Beam proof. The serial number can be found on the bottom of the barrel, the front of the frame, and the left side of the receiver, with the last two digits of the serial number on various other parts.

This specific Luger, with a G date code on the chamber, S/42 stamped toggle, serial number 2188C, stock lug, and early pre-WWII-German political party proof marks (w|154, s|92, and early National Socialist Party acceptance stamp), is likely a transitional pistol manufactured around 1935. Its unique features make it an exciting piece for collectors and Luger enthusiasts.
