Description
The Smith & Wesson Model 53 is one of the most unique revolvers ever produced by Smith & Wesson, designed specifically around the high-velocity .22 Remington Jet cartridge. Built on the classic K-frame and introduced during the early 1960s magnum era, the Model 53 combined revolver reliability with centerfire varmint-cartridge performance. This example features the desirable 8 3/8-inch pinned barrel configuration, making it especially attractive for collectors and precision revolver enthusiasts.
This revolver retains approximately 97% of its original blue finish with only light muzzle wear and scattered handling marks from careful use. The bright bore remains excellent, while the serrated service trigger and special selective hammer display vivid original case-hardened colors. The diamond checkered walnut target stocks with ejector cutout remain in excellent condition and complement the revolver’s classic appearance beautifully.
Additional features include a Baughman ramp front sight and Smith & Wesson’s micro-adjustable rear sight for excellent target capability. The Model 53 remains highly collectible due to its unusual chambering, innovative design, and relatively limited production. Whether added to a Smith & Wesson collection or appreciated as a unique piece of revolver history, this is a fine example of a rarely encountered classic magnum-era revolver.
