A truly special Smith & Wesson .357 Registered Magnum that is one of only 5400 ever manufactured between 1935 and 1939. This exceptional Registered Magnum, no. 3184, has both incredible condition and military provenance. It is equipped with an 8 3/4" barrel, McGivern Gold bead front sight blade, round-notch rear sight and Magna grips. The gun comes in an original Type II picture box that is every bit as crisp and mint as the gun itself. Lieutenant Maley ordered the gun in 1937 while stationed at Port Angeles Coast Guard Air Station, Port Angeles, Washington with 500 rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition sighted in at 50 yards with a dead center hold. Copies of the original sales invoices and correspondence between Lt. Maley and the factory are also included.

Kenneth Paul Maley, born February 11, 1906, graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut, Class of 1928. He served on several Coast Guard cutters until entering the Pensacola Naval Air Station in 1934 and earned his wings in 1935. In December, 1943, Admiral Maley was assigned as executive officer of the USS Cepheus and in June, 1945, as commanding officer of the USS Centaurus, participating in the European and Pacific Theaters of World War II. In addition to many service medals and ribbons, Canandaigua native received the Bronze Star with Combat "V" device. He retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral in 1958.

The gun retains over 99% of the original blue finish showing a faint cylinder line. The original case colors are superb and the magna grips are crisp and sharp. The original box and paperwork are excellent. An extremely nice Registered Magnum that can never be upgraded with incredible military provenance.
